Tu BiShevat at Trout Lake

Tu BiShevat means that Spring is on the way!  Celebrate our Jewish holiday honouring trees and nature.  We will create a beautiful terrarium of succulent plants with an expert florist for each family to take home.  Miriam Gindin will lead a yoga class for all ages using themes of nature for the poses.  Rabbi Brown will share a Tu BiShevat story with the kids and we will enjoy some delicious snacks, too! 

Please bring yoga mats with you, if you have them!

Hanukkah on Ice

Join East Side Jews for the 6th night of Hanukkah!  We are going to have a wonderful event with so many options for families to celebrate.  Families are invited to ice skate together between 3:30-5:00 pm on the charming Robson Square Rink in downtown Vancouver.  If you need a break or to warm up, you will find hot cocoa and soofganiyot in the BC Hosting Space.  Ice skate rentals are included in the program.

At 5:00 pm sharp, we will gather to light the hanukkiah and sing Hanukkah songs with our friend, Alex Konyves.  

Finally, from 5:30 to 7:30, we will serve a simple pizza dinner and show the movie WALL·E.  It's our hope that bigger kids will have fun watching the movie and parents will have a chance to schmooze and connect!

Shabbat Dinner at the Library

East Side Jews Shabbat dinners are fun for all ages.  We will enjoy a yummy Shabbat dinner - Israeli style - catered by Hummus Express.  (Don't worry - we will have mac and cheese for picky eaters)  Alex Konyves will engage kids with his excellent Shabbat music and we will be doing a mitzvah project activity as well!

Sukkah Build at Trout Lake

Back by popular demand - we are building another sukkah at Trout Lake.

Get your hammers and nails ready to build an East Side Jews sukkah. Kids (5 years+) and adults will help us to construct our sukkah and kids and adults of all ages will help to decorate. We will have crafts, snacks, and music with Alex to round out the afternoon.

Trout Lake is allowing us to keep the Sukkah up for the entirety of Sukkot - through October 12th! You can come with your family anytime during Sukkot to share a meal and dwell in the sukkah that we built!
Shabbat Picnic at Trout Lake

It's our last East Side Jews event before summer and you don't want to miss it.  We will gather for Shabbat music and blessings, a catered picnic dinner, and lots of fun playing with friends on the nearby playground.  Bring a picnic blanket and park toys to share!

East Side Jews Mitzvah Day
Renfew Ravine Park Clean Up

Do a mitzvah!  Bring your kids to help clean up one of our beautiful parks in East Van and learn about the importance of shmirat ha-adamah - taking care of the earth.  With the partnership of Keep Vancouver Spectacular, we will provide bags and gloves.

Meet up in the building 100 metres west of the 29th Ave Skytrain Station at 3:00. [It's the gray structure on the map below between the Skytrain Station blue Google arrow and the playground]

We will have snacks and some music and there is a playground right outside the door for the kids to play, too.

Purim Extravaganza!

Fun on the Mountain!

What a winter it's been!  Let's enjoy some fun on the mountain with East Side Jews.  Families can choose to Toboggan or Tube (tubers must be at least 48" tall) or just hang out in the warm Enquist Lodge!  We will have hot cocoa and snacks as well as some simple crafts for those who want to stay indoors.  If you choose to toboggan, you can bring your own sled or rent one there for $1. 

Ticket prices are for each person who will tube or toboggan - children and adults are the same price.

Our first Shabbat Dinner of the year is going to take place on Friday night, November 18th. We are very excited to celebrate Shabbat downtown at CBC Studios! We will have a catered Shabbat dinner, with traditional blessings and songs. Rabbi Brown will tell a story to the kids and families will have plenty of opportunities to schmooze and connect.
